I always feel bad when this happens. A month ago some Salt Lake longboarders were on the local news trying to get their rights back to skate a bike path, witch was shut down due to sk8ers colliding in to cyclists and hikers. The sk8ers that were int…

My top three skateboarding influences:
I did start skating at a very young age. and growing up in Boise Idaho I used skateboarding as cross training for my freestyle skiing,(or hotdoging as the called it back then). So after 2yrs. and tons of new mounting screws not bolts the local ski shop started selling the original Bahne\Caddilac boards witch came with a copy of skateboarder magazine issue no. 1. I got one for my 13th birthday and my life as i knew it had changed. not only was i teenager but I had a Bahne.
I've been through a Gazillion boards since that day and I wish i had them all so I'm Going to credit more than three.
1The Original Z-boiz
2 The Logan Earth Ski Team (I've personally skated with Bruce,Brad&Robin).
3 The La Costa boiz or any other slalom geek from the day. (I've ran cones with Bobby Piercy,Conrad Myoshi,Curtis Hesselgrave.
4 My own sk8 team KWZ\BUDGET(tapes and records)BOIZ. formed by that Brian guy aka PUSHEAD. we really pushed each other to excell in our sport. I miss you guys, Mike Neal, Mike Fortin, Mitch York, Ian Smith, Brian Small& Brian. others who were not on the team but deserved to be. Roger Bishop, Bob Neal, Mat Fisher, Todd Huff, Tony Minus, Scott McEntee, Pat Schmalljohn, Eric Strubarr, Cole Nagle.
5 my sk8 buddies from the geriatrics crib. Kevin Hornibrook,Mark Winklaar,Mark Boxx, Trish Erickson gotta luv her and other U.P.C. members.
6 All the great people I've ran into at Races. Wax and the Coss Crew, Jason, Richie and Maria, Jackhammer, Dunn, Kossick, Cat, Marcus, Marrion & Marty, Mac, Norski, Siv, The TimeShip Crew. You guys are far more fun than the guys that are into recreating Civil War Battles & D&D
7 Last but not least. the man who showed me what tight slalom is all about, because if you run one of his tight courses he's not messin around. Mr. Martin Drayton. Oh Martin I'm still sorry about the Guss Truck.
What was your first skateboard?
My Brothers Hobie from the 60's. then in 1971 me mum got me a BLACK KNIGHT. Then in 1974 my brother got me a BAHNE for my birthday, since then there have been several boards.
And (since I'm still reading your page), I see you raced with Conrad Miyoshi. My next NSR web issue is doing a tribute to him, since he's gone. Might you have a few words I could include about your memories of him?

Hi Bob,
I'd be glad to. I know how nice it is to have old "evidence" of what was. I won't be going it soon, though. I have 3 years of monthly issues to search through. This summer I am busy with my racing and have put off re-leasing the NSR for the summer. In case you were in results in mid-'77, you can read them on the nationalskateboardreview.com site. If it was after that, I will certainly send them to you, as well as put them up on the site, when I find them.

Bob,
My name is Chris Butler and I work for a paper in Boise. I'm doing a story on the skate scene in the Boise in the 70s. In particular the Tidy Bowl days. Mitch York is a good friend of mine and I've seen his images. Can you send me a message at

Thanks,

I'm glad to here you've been back on board. I have friends who have been to your new Park, and every one has given it 3 thumbs up. I got out my self yesterday and took Melody and Callie to the park in Logan. Skated with a good buddy Mark Boxx and Kevin. Kevin and I ran some flatland cones starting at 5 1/2 with offsets and curves set at 6 1/2 to 7. It's been three weeks since I've been able to sk8 it felt sooo good. Then after Mark and Kevin left so did the other 4 kids. So Melody Callie and I had the park to ourselves. It was great it really gave me a chance to teach Melody how to skate different carving lines in the park. She is getting good. I'll keep in touch about a skate day. I'm thinking mid to end of sept. the girls want to see you,Kevin wants to see you. Mark wants to meet you, and I miss the hell out of sk8in with you and the family. So lets keep in touch and make it happen. Bob
