What was your first skateboard?
I borrowed my dad's Makaha. it really sucked. I thought it was dangerous as hell but watching the Hobie team on TV made it look like it was easy so I spent time just trying to make the board turn. In 3rd grade, not much you can do.

San Diego - May Day 2008

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm in front of the Crystal Pier, I've been meeting up with kids to give pointers on how to longboard and in general performing the switch stance and switch push movement to help them expand their horizons.

I don't think it's because I have an uncanny sense of balance cuz really.. it's all muscle memorization of proper repetititional technique. I do think I'm blazing a trail in this area since it's just not switching feet and stance. it's a gyroscopic display of swing and G force. When I'm on my snowboard or skii's on long steep and deep powder, the swinging from side to side is a sensation that when experienced can cause a void in one's toolkit for having fun when there's no snow. So I've got my skogging device to fill that void. Obviously being out in the wild where it's quiet and mother nature screams beauty, it's hard to replicate that on a sidewalk but if that sidewalk is near the ocean or mother nature whereever, it's not bad backup! Especially when you are keeping those muscles tested, challenged so when the time comes to leap out of the copter or drop down the huge face for a bottom turn, your legs will be ready and at this age in my life, running and gyms just don't do it. They stink, people with muscle head trips runneth over and in general is a social scene I think sucks :)

Oh crap.. gotta go.. more later )

Hopefully this message isn't redundant but I'm finally getting around to blog the link to Di Dootson's new development effort to resurrect copies of NSR from the past in a new online page flipping format.

Hello Chris,
I remember your trick tip on Skoging in Skateboarder magazine back in the 70's. My buddies I covered long distances we would get thigh cramps. So most of picked up skoging I am trying to relearn it. Did you ever have a flatland pump contest?

Nice. Stephen Stills, Neil Young talking about the cops that have to deal with assholes all day like us :)

Nice to know I was in a similar camp but it's a far cry from "4 Dead in Ohio" .

But of course this is where it begins. Being a peaceful person is easy. Being a collared peaceful person is growing tiresome.

p.s. thanks kitty cat :)

I waited a week to let the smoke blow over from the arrest but the full story on what happened is here.

Zero tolerance for cops being nasty to skateboarders got ugly. And rightly so. Someone has to address the problem. I took a chunk out of it.

both of my younger kids like portland and my middle daughter shannon, lives near portland so umm...... who knows i may end up moving there :) for a little while.

but the weather down here is hard to beat with all the stuff that comes with hollywood south. you just need to find the right circles to hang and be ready to say hello to the beings responsible for our existence as well as drink heavily from the cup of momma's finest desserts.

i just don't buy being a viewer for long. at some point you gotta get off your ass and be responsible for skateboard's evolution. and thatz what I'm about.....

i like going fast. my sv1000 motor scooter gets around traffic nicely. it is a wee bit on the quick side but it's far from being a haybusa. it's just the closest thing to a spaceship i've been on... an um.. i think i belong on one :)
