Goodbye England, hello Utah!

I was starting to think I would never get to post this...
Well, it finally came through...Our final Green card Interview is mid-October, so after a brief family break we will be departing these shores for the Mountains of Utah at the end of the month.
My last UK skate session will be on Sunday 12th October at Hove lawns. It would be cool to see as many of you as would like to come, I would LOVE a group shot for posterity. Any ideas to make this more of a party than a skate, let me know.
Thank yo… Continue

World Championships...

The Gothenburg Crew is to be congratulated, it was a brilliant weekend! You guys successfully covered EVERYTHING except the one thing beyond your control, the weather. Even then you had a Plan 'B' which meant all events were run - WELL DONE!

Personally, it was cool to see so many old and dear friends and to put faces to names of people I only knew from the Internet, I'm super glad I went, just a shame I had to leave before the Final of the Tight and the party to get my plane. So sorry those I d… Continue

Smashed my old record!

I wanted to compare different Seismic wheels on a benchmark course, plus I knew that the upcoming World Champs have a 50 cone straight parallel event, so I set up the GWR 50 cone course, ie 50 cones @ 1.6m centre to centre (5ft 3ins).
After a couple of runs of 11.00, 10.32 & 10.24secs, I changed wheels and posted 10.44, 10.43 and 10.45 on them. I changed back and posted 10.32, 10.19 and finally 10.16 !!!!!
I'm pretty stoked as my training seems to be going well, I feel strong, fit and know i… Continue

Guinness 50 cone World Record - Unofficially broke my old record.

I got to try the 50 cones @ 1.6m (5ft 3ins) Guinness World Record distance for the 1st time since October last year when I recorded 12.83 sec. I had previously done it off a short run up in 11.22sec, but last week I did it in 10.81 sec in the dry, again off a short run in.The new deck definately made it happen.
One day I'll have a go on a good surface, dry sunny weather and a long run in....I can dream can't I?

Martin.

Thank you all so much for making me feel welcome here and for helping me keep my sanity during my time in the UK. It would be unfair to pick out individual people, those who are special know who they are. Skate-wise it was great being here and allowed me to realise several dreams, hooking up with a great new sponsor, my own deck, the GWR, turning Pro and a few podiums too.
Skating with you all, particularly the Pig City Crew, has given me my most fun times here in the UK (other than being with my family of course). In an ideal world I wish I could live and snowboard in Park City AND have you guys to skate with off the hill!

As a parting gift to help the Brighton guys get their timing gear set up, I am donating my Gecko Pre-Production Model 003 for the "Tapeswitch raffle" and to maximise funds I would suggest that you post that it is a prize on the forums and allow people who are not going to be there to buy tickets (if that is legal!) as I'm sure less wealthy racers/Collectors would want to get in on it!Besides, would be nice if you didn't have to dip your hands in your pockets to get it...
Guess I won't be Ebaying it in 20 years then...

Thank you again,

Martin, Julie and Maya x.

Hi Ya Martin! Congrats on your race season. Not bad considering you only have flat land to practice on! Rumor has it that you might be back with us soon? I sure hope so. I need a training buddy 'cause I sure don't train well by myself. I would love to see Mia again too. She's about that age that you could have her out on the snow! Can't wait see all of you again. Keep in touch and hope to see you all soon.

Hey Martin
It looks like you've been getting plenty of turns in this season. I wish I could say the same. Every since I developed that blood clot in my leg it hasn't been the same. I hate some of the medication they have me on (like the blood thinner turns out it a low dose of rat poison). But I'm not giving up the fight. I get out as much as I can and when the heat of the summer mellows I'm sure I'll get out more.

Thats cool you guys hooked up Pappas. The man is on fire. When is saw him at the 07 Nationals he was so fast and he had those wild eyes that say "look out I'm coming through fast and hard". Plus He's a super nice dude. I spent some time chatting with him at the awards party.

Hope to see you soon and give Julie and Mia my love.

A Top American Slalom Racer Takes Gecko on Tour

Following on from the World Championships in Sweden, top American slalom racer George Pappas was impressed enough with the Gecko SLE Tight Slalom skate deck to take one with him on his European mini-tour.

Gecko are hoping that if he is suitably impressed, to work with George to create an HGS signature deck for release later this year following trials.
We'll keep you posted keep checking the website, George will have the 1st proto under his feet very soon! We are really excited to say the least.
