Yesterday, I was skating with my son, I'm 30 he is 6, and we were bombing down one of our favorite hills that ends with a wicked curve to the right. Old school asphault road in a tiny town Galena, KS. My son pointed out that there was a parked car toward the end of the block, and I motioned for him to get over so we could go around. About three blocks up he said "Dad there is a cop car on the road." I again motioned for him to get over so we could go around. About 50 feet from the vehicle the of…

So I was thinking about a few things tonight about my past and how it's lead to where I am now and where it might lead me in the future. There is a line at the end of the movie Stand By Me that I never noticed the first few times I watched it. When I was older, I saw the movie again on HBO during one of their "Movie Repeat" marathons (why do we pay for those old movies again)? Anyways, the line was when Gordy was older and he was watching his kids play in the yard and he read about his friend Ch…

I am pretty nostalgic.....I can't help it...I was just wondering how many of you remember Samurai Skates? It was the only skateshop in Rochester, NY back in the late 80's....I know...that's pretty weird for you young skaters seeing how skateshops are all over the place these days. Well anyways...when I was 9 back in about 1987 all the kids in my neighborhood were talking about this skateshop in the city that sold all the good stuff....all we were used to was Nash and Veriflex.....the only pro mo…

Sometimes when someone asks you a question, you have to respond with a question right back at them…..If someone asks you in a derogatory way "hey what tricks can YOU do?" ….
Try ignoring their question…let your skating do the talking, and ask them "Do you know how to have fun on your Skateboard?"
Skateboarding, in my old as dirt opinion.. should always only be about having fun. I don't care what kind of skating you're doing, if you're having fun, you're skating….if you are out there trying to i…

For those of you who have read my blogs....they aren't perfectly written, they jump around and they include run on sentences etc.....I don't want them to be perfect...I just want them to be how I want to write...and express my point the way I want to....I believe blog writing should be free flowing and not be too edited and re-read and corrected to be how your English Teacher would want you to write...The reason I have opened with this is because that's exactly the same way I feel about Skate…

I’ve always liked trying new things. When I was a teenager I was attracted to rock climbing, hang gliding and of course skateboarding.
In the early days of skateboarding’s urethane rebirth there were all kinds of crazy inventions. It seemed like every new issue of SkateBoarder brought a host of wacky products, from the Skatebrake to Emotion Wheels. Granted most of these never made it in the marketplace, however, the interesting thing back then was that we actually ended up trying quite a few of…

We have a winning answer! The winner's name will be announced when I receive their real
name.
Clue #1 Wheels are hidden in a place that has it's own name, but it is not the name of a
city.
The hiding place is a surf spot.
Clue #2: A Free Ride will "show" you the way.
"Free Ride" a 1970's surfing movie.
Clue #3: Free Ride...as "not" seen on your TV.
The filmmaker always thought that the film should be seen on the big screen and according to "The Encyclopedia of Surfing" it was never rel…

I was skating at
Osos Skatepark and I noticed this guy riding a board I vaguely recognized. It turned out to be another one of my designs for
Eppic. This was a
Dave Donalson Mini model. He had an underground comic he gave me and wanted to use as a basis for the art. It was pretty jumbled stuff but that's what he wanted, so that's what I drew. The guy riding this loved it. It's cool to see stuff still around.
