I’ve always liked trying new things. When I was a teenager I was attracted to rock climbing, hang gliding and of course skateboarding.
In the early days of skateboarding’s urethane rebirth there were all kinds of crazy inventions. It seemed like every new issue of SkateBoarder brought a host of wacky products, from the Skatebrake to Emotion Wheels. Granted most of these never made it in the marketplace, however, the interesting thing back then was that we actually ended up trying quite a few of…

We have a winning answer! The winner's name will be announced when I receive their real
name.
Clue #1 Wheels are hidden in a place that has it's own name, but it is not the name of a
city.
The hiding place is a surf spot.
Clue #2: A Free Ride will "show" you the way.
"Free Ride" a 1970's surfing movie.
Clue #3: Free Ride...as "not" seen on your TV.
The filmmaker always thought that the film should be seen on the big screen and according to "The Encyclopedia of Surfing" it was never rel…

I'm turning 52 in early December, and since fitness legend Jack LaLanne lives in Morro Bay, I'm going to borrow a page from his book and skate 52 miles in one day on the first weekend in December.
The route will start 52 miles north of Morro Bay and finish at Morro Bay Surf Company in where else...Morro Bay. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome.

Just received some financial support from Wayne at Surf-Rodz (check his ad in the new Concrete Wave) and Eric Meyer, the guy who started Simple Shoes. Eric grew up in Morro Bay right across the street from Paul Dunn.
Neither of these guys will be displaying a banner at the race, they kicked down because they love skateboarding.
Thanks,
The Organizing Crew

My son, Dylan, and I met up with Scott Kam of Rootamental fame at the Los Osos skatepark around 11am.
For those of you have seen any weather news lately, you know that the central coast of California has been having a massive heat wave. Our plan was to have a crew skate the 12 miles from Los Osos to San Luis Obispo, and then participate in the annual Go Skateboarding Day parade down Higuera Street.
I was leaning towards bailing, seeing how the temp in SLO was over 100 and 97 in Los Osos. Scott…

I've posted this before on other sites, if you haven't read it, I hope you enjoy.
He smiled when he saw the sign, "Old Creek Road". Surfers have their breaks, skateboarders have their roads.
This was the road where it had all began for him.
Thirty one years ago, in a VW bus with a friend named Steve. Jack had never skated a mountain road until that day. Steve had begun skating in the clay wheel days and never stopped, on the drive up Old Creek he had told Jack stories of moonlight runs in the…

When I started
"The Skateboarder's Journal", I hoped to create a community where all skateboarders are welcome. I even came up with a simple tagline
"A Community That Embraces and Respects All Forms of Skateboarding".
After just being online for just a few weeks, TSJ seems to be moving in the right direction. Our membership is becoming more diverse, you've probably noticed that a growing number of younger street and park skaters are joining TSJ. I find it refreshing that these you…

for becoming members of The Skateboarder's Journal. I'm really enjoying all the activity here on the site. I'm amazed at how fast TSJ is growing.
If you take a look the video and slideshow sections on the front page, you will notice there is now an "add to facebook" link under each one. If you want to add this to your Facebook page just click the link. Once it's on your Facebook page, other members of Facebook will be able to add it also...this will help TSJ grow even more.
The planning for th…

Today there was a Zephyr blowing through the canyons of the central coast, and my thoughts drifted back to this same time of year in 1975. I was 19 years old and had been skating for less than a year. It was around 10am and I was practicing nose wheelies in my driveway when this VW Bus rolls to a stop and a John Denver look-a-like climbs out. I recognize the guy, he lives up the street with his wife and two kids. He introduces himself as Steve Cline and asks to check out my skate. After looking…
