"Ian's Story - The Last Run"

The cool night air was in his face as Ian Tilmann made his last run down the hill on Hercules Avenue in Clearwater, FL. Ian's passion was longboarding. He loved to feel the wind surrounding him as he carved each & every curve down the hill. Police later said Ian was going about 20 mph. The 28-year-old U.S. Marine Corp veteran and three friends had been skateboarding down the street for several hours. But this would be Ian's last run. At the foot of the hill the front wheels on his longboar… Continue

Skate Smart?

Most recent statistics from the CPSC/CDC for Skateboarding Head Injuries: In 2004, 50 head injuries per day were reported, 2 of those head injuries required hospitalization. In 2006, there were approximately 47 deaths from skateboarding & approximately 40 of those deaths were due to head injuries with no helmet. One of the most important reasons for wearing a helmet is to protect yourself from "repeated" head injuries. The most common results of head injuries (especially "repeated" head inj… Continue

Food For Thought

As you enjoy the Holidays with your family this year, think of these things...the laughter, the smiles, the love, then look at each of your loved ones & think about how much you love them. Now think about the Holidays without one family member there. The empty space, no smile, no laughter from your loved one. Our family will look at an empty space, the one where Ian would be. Ian really enjoyed family & living...he brought laughter into our lives...laughter that is now forever silenced.… Continue

Skate Smart...Wear A Helmet...Live To Skate Tomorrow!

I read the linked article from the main page titled Scary Moments at the Skate Park - We will wear helmets from now on. The article is about a 17 year old who suffered a head injury at a Port Angeles Skate Park, but it also mentions that a 14 year old died from head injuries he sustained in a fall in that very same park in 2006. Please guys think...helmets save lives! The fact is traumatic brain injuries (that's what its called when you impact your skull against a hard surface) are permanent and… Continue

Article "Teen Dies After Skateboarding Accident"

Another Fallen Skater and the RIP Because They Didn't Wear A Helmet list just keeps on growing! Our family's heartfelt sympathy goes out to Lachlan's family. Our family has traveled this very same road. Such a senseless tragedy. Another skater has lost their life to head injuries. My 28 y/o son, Ian Tilmann, died on May 26, 2005 from head injuries sustained from skateboarding downhill. Ian was NOT wearing a helmet. If Ian had been wearing a helmet, he would NOT have sustained ANY injury at all.… Continue

Another Fallen Skater

Just received an email from a dad in California. The subject of his email read "Fantastic Idea...Too Late for Us". His 18 y/o son died in June 2008 from brain injury received in fall while skateboarding on street. The young man was NOT wearing a helmet! Please think....wear a Helmet! Another wonderful positive spirit gone, another family left to grieve all because he wasn't wearing a helmet. THIS IS NOT A FREAK ACCIDENT! It is happening more often than you know. It can happen to you! Make the pr… Continue
